You may constantly think about money, worry about money, avoid looking at your bank account, overwork to feel safe, overspend, hoard money, or feel like there is never truly enough…no matter how much you earn.

This is what money anxiety often feels like.

And it is far more common than most people realize.

What Is Money Anxiety?

Money anxiety is the chronic emotional and physiological stress many people experience around earning, spending, saving, debt, financial uncertainty, or simply thinking about money.

For some women, it looks like constant worry and mental obsession. For others, it looks like avoidance, procrastination, shutting down, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed by financial decisions.

Many women live in a near-constant state of bracing:
waiting for something to go wrong, fearing they’ll run out, or feeling like they need to work harder, achieve more, or finally “figure it all out” before they can relax.

The problem is that money anxiety is rarely just about numbers.

It’s often about what happened to you.

What Is Financial Therapy?

Financial therapy is the integration of emotional healing, nervous system support, and practical financial awareness.

Traditional financial advice often focuses only on behavior:

budgeting
debt reduction
saving
investing
financial planning

And while those things matter, they don’t address the emotional and nervous system patterns underneath your financial behaviors.

Financial therapy asks deeper questions:

Why do you avoid looking at your accounts?
Why does earning more money still not feel safe?
Why do you overwork, overgive, or undercharge?
Why do you panic when unexpected expenses arise?
Why does money trigger shame, fear, or self-doubt?

These patterns are not signs that you’re lazy, irresponsible, or broken.

Most money beliefs are formed in childhood.

Long before you understood investing, debt, savings accounts, or retirement, your nervous system was absorbing emotional information about money and safety.

These patterns don’t disappear simply because you become an adult or start earning more money.

Why Women Struggle with Money

Women’s relationship with money is deeply personal, but it’s also cultural, historical, emotional, and relational.

Women have only had full financial autonomy for a relatively short period of history. For generations, women were conditioned to depend on others financially, avoid talking about money, prioritize caregiving over financial well-being, and feel guilty wanting more.

Even now, women are often taught how to sacrifice, cut back, and stretch money rather than how to confidently build wealth, invest, receive, and create financial stability.

So many women silently carry beliefs like:

wanting money is greedy
there’s never enough
I have to overwork to deserve it
I can’t trust myself with money
I should be grateful for what I have
if I slow down, everything will fall apart

These are not character flaws.

They are patterns your nervous system adapted to over time.

The Nervous System & Money Anxiety

Money anxiety is not simply a mindset issue.

When your brain perceives money as danger, your body shifts into survival responses.

You cannot out-think a nervous system that is bracing for danger.
